Ban it, only because of the select dirty barstewards chucking butt ends out of the window. Disgusts me!

As opposed to about 90% of people that smoke outside throwing their fag ends on the floor anyway

Don’t quote me but I think company vehicles should also have a no smoking sticker on one of the windows. :undecided:

Correct.

And ban old people from driving, they are dangerous.

The list can go on.........................................................

That also disgusts me.  Litter patrol should cover that.

it winds me up when I'm driving behind someone and I see their fag end fly out the window

I'd ban it just to stop that
Why?
The only problem I can think of would be for motorcyclists behind.

It's littering and it's always a problem for motorists behind.

As opposed?

Opposed? It's the same thing, still littering.

Lets face it we all know the health implications of smoking, and doing it front of your kids is plain stupid.
I also hate butts every where flicked out of windows and lining the gutters and pavements.

But if you are going down that route the hypocrasy must stop, we should ban drinking as its bad for you, we should ban driving as it is bad for anybody near your exhuast pipe including yourself, we should ban spitting, we should ban fatty foods, we should ban salt, we should ban guns, loud music etc etc etc.
I am afraid that this is just a stealth tax hidden by righteous smoking Nazi's so that for those who choose to continue to smoke can be forced to pay out more.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee, oh no Caffine is bad for you quick ban it.

Perhaps banning it is a blunt instrument to make sure that children are not exposed to cigarette smoke in cars? It's my understanding that where a ban has been enforced elsewhere in the world to prevent smokers lighting up in cars with children in, the difficulty has been with police identifying how old a child is (or in fact if any child is present tucked up in a baby seat), from a distance as a car goes past at speed. The easy way out of this is to say ban it all together.

This doesn't mean the next step is to ban smoking in the home, as children generally have a choice as to whether they stay in a smoky room or leave, whereas that choice is not really an option in a confined space on a long car journey. Whether you agree with it or not, I think that's the core of the argument as put forward by the BMA. I'm currently working on a respiratory ward where 75% of the patients have smoking-related diseases, and I'd say anything to limit children's exposure to cigarette smoke is a good thing, particularly if it helps prevent them taking up the habit in the first place.

Also, you can't eat in a car whilst driving or anything other than what's related to driving isn't allowed (driving related = controls or equipment that came with the car), so why would smokers be exempt?

You're missing the point. They mean in the car, not outside of the car. They're not trying to ban it outside of the cars.

Also, another point you're missing is that the smoke affects others around. Drink, food etc won't get into the system of others, unless they're eating/drinking it themselves.
