My router has no QOS function (useless, right?) so I cant restrict the PC's bandwidth when I'm on Xbox live. BF3 + lag = no fun  :lipsrsealed:

We have a 7meg d/l speed and i get lag when she's on Spotify

Are there any (free) programs I can use to restrict the bandwidth of the PC?

Host a mini VM and set the IPcop VM as the default gateway or if you have an old PC you're not using, repurpose it now, bish bash bosh http://www.ipcop.org/

Jay you make out sound so easy :undecided: tbh I've not considered playing with the firmware. I have an old 3com office connect here so may fire that back up, out may have qos

You've used linux before so you know your way around the OS, so from there it's just learning to configure/use IPCop*

*in theory anyway, plus anything you may not have encountered before, but it's a stand alone so should work mainly out of the box.

Meh my experience of Linux is:

Does it do what I want it to do...

...No...

...Reinstall different version of OS until it does what I want.

Sorry Jay I'd love to be a Linux pro but I have no idea how to do anything BUT the basics of clean installing the OS and using it on our netbook. In that sense I'd rather something Windows flavoured.  :undecided:

Nope I have a Thompson router (free with our Plusnet broadband), worried about firmware because I may brick it

That said, I have a spare router.
