5 k limit on gti

hi my gti has decided to go into safe mode today and is limited at 5k not sure if its my timing or hall senser or anything elce not had chance to realy look at it yet has anyone had this happen to them??   
i know if you disconnect the battery for ten min it will reset the ecu and be back to normal for a short while but wont be doing this as dont want to damage anything.
any help would be awsome chears

mine is doing this, my snap on scanner says hall sender but im not fussed about it as its only my daily hack.  :smiley:

yeah get it on VAG-COM im not sold on these code readers hence i spent a good pile of cash on a Snap-on Ethos.

Have been reading through a few threads, most of them point towards a hall sensor defect when people mention 5k rev limit.

Seems a really common fault, have a search on here if your not sure, good luck!

Chears guys will be getting a new uprated dizzy and leads after mot then going to look into it more need to get timing checked for sure, anyone know best way to get this done ?? Dont realy want to go to garage if i can help it.  My mechanic in ozz
