Suspension Removal - Snapped Allen Key in the shock socket

As title really,

Went to remove my shock and spring that has broke and someone has had a go before and snapped the allen flush with the top of the strut socket.

When I use just a 22mm spanner it all turns, and mole grips cannot grip the shaft.

Would an impact wrench at a garage be enough to undo the top nut without the allen? or would it just spin the same?

yeah thats the best way to do it mate.
or you could have ago at drilling into the snapped bit and then pulling it out but good luck with alen key metal lol.

I think it would just spin the same mate. Have you tried a bit of rubber between the mole grips and the shaft?

Impact gun and mole/stilsons will work without a doubt.

Yup. Bigger pair the better  And put on as tiiiiiiight as you can manage

I don't think drilling the key bit out is option as its probably hardened steel and its not perfectly flat.

The mole grips I have at the moment are good quality but they are the straight type so think I probably need curved ones.

Once I get them I'll chop an old bike type rubber up of something.

Bloody pain Still have to check why my handbrake isn't working so well and make a failed jacking up attempt not look so bad for the MOT soon.
