« on: 12 November 2011, 19:09 »
hiya guys,
was wondering how easy it would be, i have electric windows in the front at  mo on my 1991 mk2 gti 8v i would to really swap them for manual winders, i know it sounds daft but i like the old school manual way, would it be easy enough to do to change from electric to manual?
look forward to a reply
cheers

Just swap the electric regulator for a manual one. Simples.

Pretty easy as said... But if you wanted to take it all out you would need a new centre console...

But you can get good money for the electric set up...

Nothing wrong with manual windows. In fact with electric motors and regulators no longer available, so only used (poss worn out) ones as replacements, if yours do fail, manual ones are so much more reliable. I think VW had this in mind when they used the same door card with the winder hole in it for both manual and electric.

If I were you, I wouldn't be rushing to sell your electric set up. Granted, it may be worth a few quid, but in the future you may just want to put it back to original. Every original part that gets changed on my car gets packed safely away, as I reckon in 20 years time, I just might want to put it back to the spec it left the factory with.

cheers for the reply guys,
i wouldnt want to swap the whole lot the switches i would just put blank switches there on the centre console, so it is literally just swapping the motor for a manual one simple as that?
cheers again.
