Am i been naive
« on: 12 November 2011, 16:12 »
Evening all

I changed to clutch cable on my 8v gti about 3 months ago seemed like an easy enough job but now the clutch has started slipping could i of adjusted the cable wrong? or is it just coincidental?

did you fit a self adjusting cable or a standard one??

Self adjusting ones have a big cone section above where it fits to the box..

If it's a standard one it will need adjusting every so often...

you say it was changed 3 months ago was it slipping then basicly as the cable is used it can stretch that would cause you to have to push the clutch in thurther to make it disingage then you adjust it so the clutch disingages closer to the top of the pedal the only way the clutch could start to slip is if its knackered or the calbe has got shorter you could try loosening the cable but highly likely that you need a new clutch plate. do you drive like a racing driver or my dad as racing drivers wreck clutches my dads clutch would last 30 years

Or possibly the clutch is gone.

When was it changed last?
