Microswitch on gear lever

Hi Everyone,
I've just replaced the gearknob on my 97 VR6 & noticed a microswitch just below the thread.
It's nothing to do with the reversing light as it doesn't actuate when you put it in reverse, could it be some sort of cruise control ?

May have already been bypassed/disconnected if you didnt know about it. Could have been from an old alarm that had become faulty etc
