Regardless of them being there or not, it's always multiples before additions.

Even putting it in to a calculator brings it out as 21.

even google brings it out as being 21!

lol @ this thread... I wasn't expecting so many weird and wonderful answers

but as has been said.. BODMAS / BIDMAS is the answer

The normal calc returns 1, the scientific calc returns 21, programmers calc returns 10101. Sure we learnt this at school, the last time I would have done something like this would have been 12 years ago, not going to have remembered that little quirk of maths rules straight away so went for the obvious answer, I did try change my answer after a minute as I had remembered the rule but it's not set to allow changes.

20 + 20 = 40

40 x 0 = 0

0 + 1 = 0

Len, that is truly astonishing

I really, really hope that you come back to us and say.. 'only joking.. see I had you all going there lol'

As regards to the maths exam question, if you just said you put 20 + 20 x 0 + 1 in the calculator and showed that in your workings out you would lose marks.

You have to do it properly. Then you will get the same result. Traditional calculators will just automatically "equals" when you hit + - / - etc.

Where all my moneys went.

I like the fact that since I asked who put 1 as the answer, clearly displaying that as the wrong amswer, another 14 people have voted 1.

You are all doomed.
