I've emailed my MP twice about this recently via the FairFuelUK website, the last was whether he was going to attend the debate - he NEVER answered yes or no to that but sent a pretty standard cut 'n paste reply

Just about to reply asking him again if HE is going to attend the debate and if not, why not?  Don't like the sleaze ball at all.

Subject: FairFuelUK Debate in Parliament - November 15th

Dear Ed Vaizey MP,

I understand and am delighted that parliament will now debate the FairFuel UK petition on Tuesday, 15th November. I hope that you will be able to attend the debate and support, speak out and vote for lower Fuel Duty and Lower Fuel Prices at the Pumps. It is so vital to the economy and me that you support this campaign.  Lower fuel prices will stimulate growth, lower inflation, motivate the public and deliver more tax revenues for the Treasury. Please read the FairFuelUK Prospectus that clearly explains these aspects in more detail at http://www.fairfueluk.com/prospectus.html

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation

Very Kind Regards,

Sincerely,

Jayton

Dear Jayton,

Thank you for contacting me about the Fair Fuel e-petition.

I fully appreciate how expensive fuel is in the UK. High fuel prices are largely the result of the high price of oil internationally and this inevitably leads to inflated costs on the forecourt.  It puts a great strain on all of us and does little to help our economic recovery.

I understand that the House of Commons Backbench Business Committee has reviewed the request to debate this subject. I am pleased that the Committee has decided that the Fair Fuel e-petition will be debated in the House of Commons on Tuesday 15 November.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Ed Vaizey MP
Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries
Member of Parliament for Wantage and Didcot

and my reply I just sent off

Hi Ed,

I notice you've managed to not actually answer my question / request that you attend the debate. The government takes the majority of the income from fuel sold. Again I ask if you are going to attend the debate? If not, why not?

regards,
Jayton

This might sound stupid but.. Should this not be compared with say 2 year ago. 5 year ago.. if the vat/duty is still in ratio then we can't really complain that much can we..

It's the internet we can complain as much as we want

Just got this from the FairFuel bods via email:

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter

The Government is still on track to put up fuel duty in January 2012 and August 2012.  These rises will add 33p per gallon to the already massive cost of petrol and diesel.

If you are angry and upset by the high cost of petrol and diesel please do the following two things for us as soon as you can:

1. If you haven’t already done so, go to this link http://action.fairfueluk.com/debateNov15, put your postcode in and then follow the instructions to send an email to your MP urging them to attend a major debate in Parliament next Tuesday 15th November on this vital issue.  If they don’t know how upset and angry we are about this issue, they may not attend.

2. Please just pass this email on to everyone you know urging them to use the link above and then pass it on to all their contacts.

We need thousands of people to press their MPs on this issue.  The Chamber of the House of Commons needs to be packed with MPs next Tuesday who are in no doubt about the suffering being caused by high petrol and diesel prices.

We need your help to do this…
Thanks again for all your support in the fight for lower petrol and diesel prices

Very kind regards

Well you learn something new everyday in the complex world of bollitics, Mr Vaizey can't debate the fuel issue because he's a Minister

Doesn't really bother me that much, of course I would like it to be cheaper but it is forcing people to consider finding other ways of getting about rather than relying so heavily on their cars, I know some people rely on a car on a daily basis for work but I'm sure there are many people who can easily manage without from time to time.

Wouldnt be so bad if pump price was more uniform too!

On my travels last weekend the North is certainly dearer!
Didnt even look at Mway prices! But normal pump prices varied from 135.9 to 143.9
Whereas I pay 131.9 at local pumps.

It's not just North/South where the price differs stupid amounts, on my way to/from work I pass 4 petrol stations the cheapest of which being Shell at 131.9 for standard unleaded, the most expensive being BP at 136.9

what i dont understand is how they can say that the cost of oil is dearer to produce diesel than petrol, diesel was a bi-product, and therefore waste, of producing petrol?? i know they now put detergents etc in but still how can oil costs be more??
