Whose chipped an 8 valve?

I'm always seeing chips for sale on ebay for 8 valves, has anyone got one? can you tell me the benefis, do they really get the performance gain they say or is it a wast of £30? also what make chip if you have one?

i have a amd chip... it made the car smoother in the midrange and helped fuel up a bit more but the hp gain is minimal unless u cam and zorst and h/work etc which i have also done and that has made a difference need a new bottom end though its a little low on compression now.!!

Dear Chris,

We offer one for the 8v, which my car runs currently, these we offer via this forum under the trader section and also on ebay.

The chip is mapped to deliver the following, smoother torque curve, injection pulse rate changed to minimise the digi-lag syndrome and then the fueling is changed past 4500rpm, standard e-prom leans the fuelling after 4500rpm, at which point the engine gets more air then fuel and end result being less power.

Our chip are aimed at drivability (torque), you will notice the day to day runs a little smoother with slightley improved fuel economy.

If a rolling road day is sorted out via the club then we will be able to offer a before and after map, we can send you the 3D graph of how the chip is re-mapped, so you can see the gains on paper.

The later you would be looking at a later stage of tune.

Please note that our chips are not the basic resistor type offering, which you may see of find else where, we can also offer a custom mapping service to the car but the costs change at this point, lot more time involved.

Sounds interesting, I assume the chip has to be tuned on a rolling road to get the best results, or is it just plug & play?

i have a mk3 2.0 8valve and i have a small resistor chip on it that i can easily put on or take off as and when i want, it cost a couple of quid off ebay without it i did the quarter mile at santapod in 18.896 and with it i did it in 17.966 so it does actually work but i only put it on when were on a track day or cruise to get that extra power. some people say they dont work but ive got proof they do!!! (the pinkies from santapod)

^^^but it could have been a better start or better gear changes??? quarter miles are rarely accurate due to human beings!!!! the only way to properly chip a car is to spend a bit of time on a rolling road and have your ecu mapped to fit the mods. its gonna be the last thing i do!!!
