dizzy stuck

got a mk2 gti that has had extensive work done to it before i bought now im just trying to sort out the bodges it ticks over rough so tried to adjust the ignition timing as its quite a bit out got my timing light all set up undid the nut on the distributor tried to turn the distributor but it wouldnt budge took the clamp completly off and looked at the bottom of the dizzy and it looks like some one has allready tried to adjust it with a chisel and hammer so must be well stuck now what i want to know is what sort of dizzy and block do i have was told it is out of a mk3 2.0 gti with a mk2 gti head but cant find any markings on the block or dizzy
hopfully dont need to get a new bottom end

the dizzy in the picture seems to be in the wrong position ,the connector should be in the middle and not close to the engine or bell-housing.

yes if timing on the belt is set correctly the dizzy position is quite far out, and i think the dizzys lift out rather that twist out so if you have a timing light you could possible wiggle it up and down.

Looks like a 2E/AGG 2.0 lump as you say from a mk3 judging by the breathers. It should be stamped just above the block breather but bit strange it's blank there

Yeh its suposed to have an engine number the engine has aparently been rebuilt 4000 miles ago with new piston rings reground crank new bearings big and little ends piper cam polished and ported head bigger valves it feels a real strong engine and its fast as fook but the block is well rusty and like some one painted it with house hold gloss and all the ancilleries look old so needs some tidying up

the car has apparently had a full respray to but looks a diferrent shade on front wings

thanks for the help guys pulled out the dizzy turned it round set it up bye eye replaced the blue temp sensor £19 from the stealers runs sweet now just need to get it set with the strobe and get a new dizzy cap and rotor and ill be laughing
