Reliable external hard drive.

As above really, I don't want a western digital or a seagate as i've had issues with these before, also I'd prefer a passport / portable USB powered drive and 320gb will be more than big enough for the data i will be storing on it.

i've got a buffalo 500 gb one :) never had problem with it only cost about £30-340 :)

Any 'reliable' HD is only as reliable as the disc in it and that's not very.

Back anything off to two different units independently if you can, or get a mirrored Network Attached Storage unit, from a company like Synology.  That way your data should be secure, if you mirror the discs*.

*until one drive corrupts and writes the corrupt files to the mirrored unit   :sad:.

if you just want it as a simple hard drive with no company branding or extra software it might be cheaper to just buy an external caddy then put any hard drive you like in it :)

I have the seagate usb one and I am currently trying to back up all my data. Its about as sh1t as they come... had just 191mb of data transfering for the last 40mins or so  :angry: :angry:

Tried transfering all 130GB previously only for it to do nothing but tell me its going to take a long time.. and seemed to be transfering the same jpeg for over an hour!!

I wouldn't touch Seagate with a barge pole after thehassle I have had with my old one. I have had it for a couple of years and rarely used it, plug it in now and I can see the file structure of what is on it, but cannot access anything on it. It has what is affectionately known as "the click of death"!
