Hope it's not like a bullock cart. The current one is awful. Relentless torture. Nearly as bad as the Civic Type R. :sick:

Hi All, I ordered a Golf GTI, order was placed on the system on 24th Sept and still waiting for it to be accepted  :cry: God knows how long it's going to be!!!

Hi everyone;  Newboy and first posting here, looking for advice/comments please;
Like ScottA, I am waiting for my new GTI.  I placed the order on May 14th 2011 and was informed "approx 25 weeks delivery".....

I've never been able to afford a VW Golf before, but dad passed away earlier this year and has left me a nice inheritance, so I thought "treat yourself Ash".....  (he would have liked the idea). I specced the car with loads of options; DSG, bi-xneons, sunroof, monza shadows, nav, leather, b'tooth...etc etc.

I've been in regular contact with dealer who has always said "still waiting for a build date"....so I have always been patient.
Speaking to the dealer last week, I got this reply;

"I’ve just asked for a build update, still currently ‘with production’, which means VW are trying to schedule the build. The factory will need capacity as well as the options and engine to be available at a given point in time to be able to schedule the build, and we’re currently at this stage trying to get all of the ‘pieces’ to fall in place".

Question to you GTI guys; Am I being fobbed off here? Reading the forum it seems there IS a lengthy wait.
My other concern is; I bought a personalised reg plate too with a 61 prefix and I'm worried that It will run out before the car gets here!

What to do?.........  Regards ASH.

1st ever GTI. awesome!.....and getting better all the time!

Call VW UK customer service and speak to them, they will tell you what it is ..... could be allocation I don't know, do you have an unconfirmed build week? I didn't get a build week on my first order because they didn't have any allocation, but I placed an order at a different dealer and got an unconfirmed build week within a day or two, so my advice..call VW UK and ask them what's going on ...... also kick up a fuss because I know some people who have been waiting longer than quoted have been supplied with hire cars by VW! I don't claim to know exactly how orders are progressed but I have an idea because I've kicked off a bit to get it sorted. Good luck

You've waited 24 weeks and it still doesn't have a build date?!? Yeah there is a lengthy wait but that sounds like an exceptionally long time and still no confirmed build date!!  You will still have that time to wait as well.
I'd phone a few local dealers and see if they have any allocation left and can match what you were paying for that one.  Not sure what VW could do for you if your present dealer has no allocation left?

As for your private registration number, not sure what you mean "it will run out" you will still be able to put your 61 plate on it regardless of when the car arrives.

Thanks for the advice - ScottA also - i'll phone VW first thing tomora and report back here ASAP.....
as for the reg number; I was told it has to be allocated to a vehicle by March 2012 or I must pay a retainer fee (not sure of cost). Maybe I will get my lovely VW dealer to stump up for that IF i'm still waiting for my GTI  :angry: :rolleyes:

Ash (welcome btw), they're taking the piss. Stuff retainers and anything else, they should also put on hold any price increases as there's no way they should be taking orders they can't fulfil.
This must be taking the edge off of what should have been a much more satisfying experience, particularly under the circumstances of the funding.
I've never had the patience to buy a new car anyway, at current wait times I'd be planning my next one before the one I had ordered was delivered.

Cheers for the welcome;  When I last spoke to the dealer apart from telling me about "the delay", he also gave me some "good news". As I'd specced leather interior, he informed me that it's now standard on GTI so I'd save over a grand! He was quite pleased to tell me that.....I was quite pissed about the delay.....

My late fathers inheritance is funding the car. Dad would have loved what I'm doing. I've never been in a position to afford a VW let alone a GTI - always had mid range VAuxhalls, Fords etc. He loved riding in my Fiesta Zetec S. Poor old soul ended up with dementure but still laughed his head off every time I went a tadge over 30 round the bends in his village! When I "eventually" get the GTI, I'm gonna BLAST it round every one of those bends, full pelt. Here's to you dad :grin:
