APR remaps price and info varies from companies!!
« on: 02 November 2011, 18:58 »
My car is mapped with APR stage 1 map, looking to get stage 2 map done or r-tech spec 2 custom map. Phone APR mobile agent said want stage 2 map £245 no cheaper although i have stage 1. Phoned tuningworkes they'll do stage 2 £145 due to me having stage 1 its cheaper. Spoke to mobile man again said £245 no cheaper makes no differece if i've had stage 1, completely different ifo from tuning werkes. Awesomegti where map was done want £360+vat for stage 2 revo cos they dont to APR anymore, sods they are no help from awesomegti just want my money. So either tuning werkes or r-tech but leaning to r-tech custom 2 map.

All this Stage 1, 2, 3 whatever makes no difference mate.

A stage 1 from company may be stronger than a stage 2 from another - these are stages specific to each tuning outfit.  Our Stage 1 is stronger than that of a number of other companies, but our Stage 2 is normally only another 10% over our Stage 1 - that's just our approach to tuning..

Stage 1 can be done with little/no mods
stage 2 with bolt on mods and top end bolt on turbo
stage 3 mainly big turbo, custom manifold, water/meth, nitrous, stronger internals etc

yes but thats just your opinion. what a tuner sells may be quite different - thats what irmscher is saying. One stage 1, on it sown, may be much better than another persons stage 2 incl bolt on mods.

to the OP - if customer service is important it seems R-Tech is the way to go. Or you could try R-Tek, east of liverpool if thats closer to you. JJ is really good and has just started doing remaps (via a German company ruedel motorsport).

In awesomes defense, they did offer free swap over to revo for a couple months after the split from APR.
I would agree its odd though that you are getting such different prices from APR dealers. I wonder if mobile chap  just doesn't want to take the loss as he didn't do the first job? I think I only paid £100 for my upgrade to stage 2 from APR but that was years ago (and at Awesome) but APR did have to write a new map for my car!

whatever you do, check out the companies quoted figures and see if you can find reviews of real figures to make sure the new 'stage 2' is actually better than the current stage 1. For what its worth, I did not find massive speed changes going ftom APR stage 1 to 2. It just had more mid range pull so was better on motorways/ 40-60mph pulls. actual bph increase was minimal but aim was for increased torque.

hope some of that helps.

Those two are undoubtedly very good.
But if no-one tries any others, there will never be any proof for the new ones (ggod or bad!). not so long ago it would have been ' R-tech are the proven guys...'

Shaft you need to look at figures and speak to the person doing it. Where abouts are you? I suspect you will go with R-tech from what you already said and I would suspect you will be a very happy chap, very happy indeed!

Why go with anyone else though? You have two tuners with an excellent reputation for both their mapping skills and customer service/aftercare. Why risk going to another unknown tuner? You could potentially waste money on a rubbish map and end up having to get it sorted by another tuner anyway :undecided:

I agree, i've spoke with both Carbon and R-Tech in the past and both know their game without a doubt.  But this remapping section of the forum is fast becoming one huge place for everyone to say "go to R-Tech or Carbon instead or Premiertuning reminding us that they also do remap's!

This section of the forums should be more about generic remapping advice/disucussion IMO.

**Doc and Nick do offer some excellent advice on this forum without touting their business's

I expect to get shot down for this but it's my opinion.
