What mk1 hatchback parts fit the cabbys?
« on: 01 November 2011, 19:21 »
As in title really, just got a mk1 cab and wondering what parts are interchangeable from the hatchback. Was wondering about things like head/rear lights, brakes, coilovers etc

thanks :)
Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Headlamps, brakes, coilovers, front bonnet etc.

Rear lights are different as are the front wings I believe.

Awesome. Actually looking on a website at rear light it said golf mk1 and all cabby models so think the later shape would go on both :)

I think the wings are the same up to 1986 or 1988 can't remember, after then they had side repeaters. but overall the wings never really changed through the life of the MK1... All will fit even if slight modification is required.

Note that pretty much all mechanicals are interchangable but obviously anything to do with upper body is not, including all glass (bar the windscreen) and quite a bit of the interior. If you have anything more specific you wish to check will fit, ask away.

Bulbs yes, rear lenses no.

Thanks for the reply! Well I've just got a 1990 clipper, so the first things I was looking to do were front lights and spots, rear lights and coilovers. Possibly a grille as well.

Thanks :)

If you want to keep a twin spot grille, note that tintop grilles and spots/fogs are different fitment to cabrios.  My MK1 has a later style 5 bar cabby grill and spot lights.  To fit it I had to shave a couple of clips off as the slam panel is slightly different.

Suspension is the same. rear lights are not, they need to be for a cabriolet.

The reason I wondered if the wings were different is that the Cabrios has different / beefier sills, so they might be a different shape where they meet the sill. :undecided:
