Sensor problem?
« on: 01 May 2005, 11:57 »
Ive got a MK2 16v with a problem.  After using it for 40mins the oil light came on but there is oil and water in it.  my uncle who I got the car off sez it happened to him months ago and that it woz a dodgy sensor but the thing that bugs me is that the engine temp gets to 100 degreass in 10mins.  should i worry?

when the fan kicks in does the temp drop a little? If so my next port of call would be the thermostat. If the temp is genuinely high i doubt it's the sensor as i think that just monitors temperature. i'm looking at a mk3 manual for this so i may be wrong.

depends how much you can do yourself. If you can get the thermostat out, test it by putting it on some string and dipping it in boiling water. if it doesn't open it's knackered. if you are going to drive it i'd take it short bits at a time as letting it get too hot is very bad.
