How long does 500mb last on a phone?
« on: 30 October 2011, 12:56 »
I'm not really into mobiles and I don't have any friends  so only have an old Nokia which is great because it has no features which means I know how to work it and the battery charge lasts forever!!

Last week I was offered a workmate's old iPhone for £70 which I probably should have bought for my son but I hesitated as it is the most used phone in the whole world with a text message arriving every five seconds (not an exaggeration) so she sold it to someone else in the office.

Then the other day I got a letter through from Virgin mobile with a Blackberry 8520 for £8.99 a month offer (24 months I think); 100 mins (I would struggle to get though 30 mins let alone 100 most months), 500 texts (I doubt I could use that many even at Christmas!!) and 500MB of interweb.

I like the idea of a Blackberry as the keyboard is quicker for texts than an ancient Nokia, so basically, how long does 500MB last?

It is more than enough for 95% of users.
I suspect you'll never use 10% of it
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

depends what your going to do, if its just going to be looking at the forum, amazon, other shop websites, wikipedia,  google and simelar websites and facebook you should be fine.

if you were going to be downloading and watching videos all day you would may run out towards the end of the month.

have a look into boosters, normaly you can get boosters for a 5er or so, and normally your alowed 1 free.

i used my free booster for unlimited internet,  i could have paid £5 and got unlimited internet included in the contract or just used my free booster. so i have 1000 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb internet then use my free booster to get my unlimited internet.

I've got 500MB, and I use my phone quite a lot, Google Maps, Spotify, YouTube, emails etc. - but even still, I don't hit my full allowance.

When I'm in the office, at home or a friends, my phone is on WiFi - so about 70% of the time I use the internet - I'm not using my allowance anyway. Hell, I even tether my phone to my laptop from time-to-time and still don't hit my limit.

500MB "fair usage" is pretty much the standard, you'll be fine :)

But don't get a Snozberry, be a winner and get an Android handset.

I got a Motorola Defy (400mins/unlimited texts/unlimited landlines/500mb internet) on a 24 mo. contract for £15 p/m from T-Mobile about 6 months ago. As a handset, its as good as the rest out there (GPS/WIFI/800x468 screen/5MP Camera) - and its water proof :)

Ive got unlimited interweb for £20 a month +500 txts + cheap calls + free to other T mobile customers and a Galaxy samsung thingy with it.
Seeing as it sits in my laptop bag devoid of charge i am really just paying £20 a month to keep my number :lipsrsealed:

Thanks for the replies everyone. Most helpful.

I've no idea what an android phone is btw (yes, I've seen the term used often enough but never had enough interest to find out what it is) and the £8.99 a month is as much as I'd want to pay really as I don't use a mobile much, have a phone at home I never use and a phone next to me at work which I try my best not to use as it normally involves someone with a problem I'm not interested in!!

I get 750mb a month alloance, and use over 500mb every single month.  That's completely from light use on webpages and Facbook.

Any network has to be better than T mobile , they are the worst network going

Kiddie network CS 30mins to get through , no signal when you go into shop even 3 is better T mobile.

500mb is ok depends on what your going to doing with phone ?

I find Vodfone the best imo !

Well, Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile/Orange) arguably have the widest coverage in the UK.

But individual peoples experiences will always differ (handset/location etc.).

Always check the coverage map before signing up ;)
