That took some effort.

Starts really well, I'm not sure about the blended time lapse in the pit though, the track footage like you say in the comments, you really needed to be closer as it goes from a smart clean behind the scenes right up with the action to shot from miles away.

Shot on Canon SLRs. Video is from 500D with 50mm F1.8 10-20mm and 70-300mm. Timelapse shot on a 350D with 18-55 kit lens.

and a HD Hero

Personally I'd have liked to have seen more on-board footage, probably from different view points, otherwise a very good job :afro:

It's the bit I'm least happy with, but at the point of not being happy with it I couldn't figure out how the hell else to put that section together.

Good point, well bought out - I should amend the description.

The thing about on-board footage is that there's too much of it about.  The whole point of this exercise was to give Mr Wells something that was more than on-board footage (as he has huge quantities of that!).  It also gets boring pretty quick IMO.

Oh you're also supposed to get camera mounts checked over by the scrutineer before the race - I did have a second GoPro with me, but I was running all over the place to get footage as it was.

As I think I noted - if I go next year I'll have a lot better idea about what to do and I'll make damned sure I have a video-head tripod, shoulder mount and an eye-piece for the SLR!

There was one bit I was really disappointed with myself for missing - the cars coming in off the track - people lined up along the pit lane as people came in and applauded, at which point I had the camera on the tripod ready to do the team photos.  Realised I was missing shooting it at the time and now I'm quite annoyed with myself about it .

Given the actual client brief that makes much more sense :afro:

I didn't know that about the gopro's, makes sense as could end up causing fair bit of damage

Sounds like you've learnt lots for the next one which is the main thing!

Also how about having the credits as something more dynamic other than just black?

You could have the old ken burns of stills of his car in the background or time lapse of the crew packing up.

Also with the number of videos you're knocking out, how about a DH presents intro clip or DH productions etc  as a lead in, more exposure for yourself and great for if people embed / steal the video.

TBH I only have so much time to burn on stuff like this - I wanted it finished.  I would also go for the less is more school of thought on stuff like that.

That would need that footage to be there to use.

Not a bad idea.  Not something I've remotely given any thought to, mostly because the stuff I've done I don't rate as being 'good enough' to nail to me.  Maybe it's time to start.

If you've not already seen it have a look at;
http://www.videocopilot.net/

http://www.creativecow.net/
is pretty good too, lots of little tutorials which could give you some ideas, depends on what editing software you're using as those sites are mainly geared to Prem and after effects.
