Sorry if its a repost.

Is this a Kit, or something the OP made in his shed?

Although.... I must say it does look quite good in the dismantled position.

It's a Vikus top.
These were made years ago and didn't really catch on.
However a company has started to remake them at a very expensive price £1,200.00
It's called the Tonik Top and is factory fitted. The company is at

Vikus Hardtops
Unit 1
The Wren Centre
Westbourne Road
Emsworth
Hants PO10 7RN
Tel (01243 377033)

It does look OK once taken down but how much fecking effort. Oh and he quotes something at the end about it using existing mounting points so could easily be a soft top again..... No, just go buy a soft top, that's probably easier.

I like the idea but assembled it look sh*t.

at £1200 you could buy another car

As anyone ever tried making a 1 piece hard roof like what you can get for MX5's etc?

Not that i'm aware of, would be a big piece of kit if there was one.

Just found a pic of the above one though, doesn't look too bad from this angle.

Would be a big piece of kit & properly not very cost effective & a pain to store (that's a few reasons nobody has done it )

I've seen them for BMW's

Just Buy a tin top

The thing looks okay and it makes the car a lot different.
There was one at the AGM of the MK1 OC, it was a black one on a green car, looked okay.
The problem is really stowing away all the panels if you want the top completeley open.
They are either gonna take up the rear passenger seat or fill the tiny boot as it is.

I think the engineering of a folding metal roof would be a massive undertaking and very costly too.
So a lot of units would have to be sold worldwide at a very low cost, to get folks to part with their cash.
You could do a full top refurb, headliner, interliner, top  pad and mohair hood for a lot less and it's easier to put up and down.

I do kind of like it though.

I think what let's it down is how it looks once it's all assembled, all the joins etc just don't look very good at all. I don't rate!
Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
