which mid steel sheet thickness for welding golf?

I need to know what thickness mid steel sheet for me to cut and weld for golf mk2?

Because I will use steel sheet to replace the rot on arches and floor of golf driver.

Any suggestion?  :smiley:

I used 1mm stuff I bought off ebay for my Mk3.

Depends on the area that needs welding. The parent material on the front and rear arches appeared to be around 1mm when I did them recently but the repair panels I got for these areas and the rear valance were more like 1.5mm. Can you not just measure it locally in the areas you are going to be replacing?

Mostly 20 gauge but some areas like floor are 18 gauge which is thicker.

 Hadrian auto panels are cheap and cheerful. Ebay sell various repair panels for not too much cash. Floors can be had from VW heritage. Speaking as someone who's done a lot of resto' including floors, I'd buy the panels unless it's only a tiny bit.

You may save money buying sheet steel but you'll spend longer fabricating to get a not so great job.

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

When I fixed up my sills, I used 16 AWG for the inner sill and 18 AWG for the outer and floor sections. Spot and seam welded.
