urgent spring seats
« on: 29 April 2005, 21:54 »
I was fitting my new lowered springs (h&r) to my mk3 1996 golf with dampers. when i went to rebuild the new set up i found the original spring seat was too small for the marginally wider new spring. the cars currently on axel stands so i need to sort this out quick. Its on the fronts, the rears were fine and went straight on. will any other seats from VW fit and be wider to hold the springs? cheers any helps appreciated.

i know it sounds silly but can you get the new springs on up side down? are they bigger at one end than the other?

Have you got the correct springs for your model? could they be springs for a vr6 mk3?

what are the dimensions of your old springs and of your new springs? people might be able to measure some spring seats and tell you.

aye up me duck!

MK3 golfs up to '95 have a different upper spring seat to the later '95 on cars.

Most spring manufacturers just supply one spring and should supply you with the different seat.

I would get on the phone and ask about it.

They are the wrong springs and looks as if they screwed up at supplier as the H&R box has spring number 29864-1 but the lynx delivery note says 29864-4 so obviously one of them couldnt read. got back to them and its going to be 10 days for replacements!!!!!!! wont be lowered for gti international so dont laugh at the 4x4 look :embarassed:
