MK5 Golf GTi spec query ***NEWBIE!!***
« on: 25 October 2011, 16:11 »
Hi all,

I'm currently a BMW man driving an E46 325 sport.. but I'm looking to get myself a MK5 GTi.

Coming from my BM that has things like parking sensors, MFSW, auto climate control, armrest and trip computer as standard I'm finding it difficult to get a GTi reasonably priced that has the spec I want.

So my question is..

What were standard on a MK5 GTi?

I want:

Xenon's
MFSW
parking sensors
climate control
highline trip computer
arm rest

Also would like sat nav and 18" Monza's aswell as heated leather but wouldn't be devastated if I couldn't find one with them factory fitted.

Also another query to be cheeky..

Was privacy glass and colour coding (bottom of bumpers and skirts) options??

Thanks in advance
Mike

Ill start from the top:

Xenon's - optional extra
MFSW - optional extra
parking sensors - optional extra
climate control  - standard
highline trip computer - optional extra
arm rest - optional extra (I think)
Sat Nav - optional extra
18'' Monzas - optional extra

Leather became standard on the GTI right at the end of their production life and Im not too sure on the heated seats. Im pretty sure it wasn't part of the winter pack which is headlight washer, heated washer jets , heated wing mirrors and low level sensor on the washer fluid which would make me think the heated seats in cloth and leather were standard, again not 100% im afraid.

As for the privacy glass im not 100% sure that you could get that out the factory, at guess Id say yes as an extra but not too sure.

The colour coded bumpers were not an option and only come fitted to the Edition 30 GTI which was brought out to celebrate 30 years of the Golf GTI.

On a side note I simply refuse to believe that your BMW came with anything as standard apart from the doors and the steering wheel

Thanks for the info mate..

Judging by your reply it looks like VW have taken over as kings of the options list.. I'd have thought they'd throw in things like MFSW, xenon's, armrest and highline computer as standard on the GTi's! They weren't cheap after all!

As my BM is a "sport" spec it did come with all of the things listed as standard.. however a work colleague has an "ES" which I can only assume stands for "especially sh*t" which literally has a steering wheel and electric windows!

Haha yep.

VW have taken a leaf out of Audis book. Xenons and 18s came standard on the R32 if that makes you feel better :D :D

To help assist in your purchase sat nav and 18 Monzas are a piece of piss to retro fit.

I should bloody hope so too the price of the R32's!! Can't believe they sold any considering a GTi is probably faster after a remap than the R32 with it's big heavy V6 and 4WD system!

Well that's why I'm not overly fussed on what wheels come with it because I never keep standard wheels.. got some lovely BBS RS-GTs on my BM so wheels aren't an issue.. also looks like 18" monza's are readily and cheaply available on ebay anyway!

Is the OEM satnav system just plug and play? nothing in the boot or any extra equipment needed to get it working? (most BM's have the nav control system in boot with just screen up front so a pig to retrofit!)

Diesel is not an option as far as I'm concerned.. I've driven fast diesels (my Mum had a BMW 330D), was not impressed.. the torque was good but it just didn't feel as good as hearing the straight 6 in my car screaming!
