Any central heating technicians on here?

Just a question really, I've just replaced my wireless box to my boiler and while looking into the instructions for the thermostat it mentions in there that you shouldn't have a TRV fitted on the rad in the same room as the thermostat otherwise it would mess the temperature control up?

that is correct. As trv's are a thermostatic control they sense the temperature around them and close when they get hot. If you have one near your thermostat then the trv could close before the temperature on the thermostat is satisfied and your stat will keep the heating on. just remove the head. they are sprung loaded and will stay open if the head is removed.

sweet thanks mate, I'll pull it off in a mo. I did always wonder why this room would never get up to temperature, I always put it down to being the last rad on the system but it would seem the TRV is the problem

If it has max written on it, or generally if turned right up then it would always stay open anyway.  If you had a trv ion in the same room as the stat if the trv was set lower than the stat then the rad would turn itself off letting the other rads heat up that room, so will save you money to get rid, leave open the trv lol

Also set all your trv's to medium (3), no need for them all to be fully open otherwise pointless having a trv anyway!

thinking about it this will be the first year we will have had the whole house double glazed too so I'll see how it goes. The TRV is set to 5 too

Yer that'll make a big difference! Make sure your roofs insulated too.. Goes out soo quick otherwise.

Yeah roof is sorted, we've binned all the loft floor insulation and added it into the roof joists behind plasterboard as we're having a play room for my girls which will also double up as an escape room for me lol

I would have kept the loft floor insulation where it was and put new stuff in the rafters.

Ahh right lol, yer I would of kept, if your saying having then is it still open flooring, if so put it back is as the play room area will boil when the heating is on. heat can't escape but coming up from the below floors! Ours gets crazy hot but thats as it has hole in the floor!

There isn't any heating up there but there is a roof light. The cupboards down the sides aren't insulated in the joists so heat can still escape through there. My bedroom at my parents had the floor and the joists insulated and that was ice cold in the winter and boiling in the summer
