98 GTI 8V Gearbox problem
« on: 24 October 2011, 12:33 »
I was wondering if any one can help me, I have just replaced the clutch on my 98 gti 8v due to the fact the clutch pedal went to the floor and would not lift. I also replaced the clutch pawl as this had split the bearing was also replace.
After putting it all back together I am still left with the same problem. Which looks to me like the push rod is not returning after pressing clutch.
I was wondering if the rod should return under pressure or something. Also should the release bearing be filled with oil before fitment. Am really stuck with this now because i dont understand why i still have the same problem.
Thanks to anyone who can help

its prob the release arm in the box (happened to me) but if you class that as the pawl, then the clutch rod (long thing metal bar) pushes against the pressure plate and when you gently let go of the clutch pedal the pressure plate pushes the rod back causing the pedal to lift (if you know what i mean) either that or you clutch cable is fecked. check the clutch cable is connected to the lever and try lifting the pedal back up and press it again and see what happens

Cheers for that, Someone else said it may be a good idea to change the rod as well. They can get worn. So going to change that and see what happens.
Will post my findings when sorted. May help someone else in the future

Yeah i changed the clutch pawl and the bearing. When i get chance am going to pull the bearing outwards with the rod to set it up on the clutch pawl. Just to see if i have not set it up in the right place.
