mk2 8v digi started then died :)
« on: 23 October 2011, 17:23 »
Hi guys I got mk2 8v digi, just went to go out and it started then died instantly and now it won't start again :( , checked leads and dizzy cap and seam ok, not checked for spark yet as had daughter with me, it does randomly cut out on me I did read up that it could be the distributor on another forum

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

ok since i wrote this i have tested coil and get a huge spark from coil, the plugs done give off a great spark but they still spark.
i have put in my spare distributor and still no joy, i know the timing will be out now but i should still get the car working with bad timing and then i can set the timing after its started.

im guessing now that the ecu has blown as the plugs were wet so i guess that its flooding :(

so i taken off the gearbox earth and cleaned that up totally and also the terminal on the battery i have cleaned up.

car still wont fire up so im guess ecu???????

when you turn the ignition on can you hear a relay click and the lift pump prime? A whirring noise coming from underneath the back seats.

Could try the ECU relay (number 32) mine was cutting out and this was the problem after a long list of trying other things.

Let me know how you go. I've got a similar problem. I've ordered a replacement 32 relay.

Is the fuel level low, could be a weak pump?

fuel pump primes, and under car pump has just been changed, it could be a relay i would have to look in to changing that one, the car has fuel but dont think its the pumps, the plugs are getting fuel, they look black so im going to change the plugs and clean up and replace earths then put in a new ecu and ecu relay i think :)

ok today i changed my earth cables one from coil to head and the one on the ging to bonnett they were pretty nackered, the one from battery to gearbox isnt to bad so i just cleaned it up, i put in some new plugs and as i changed my dizzy as thought it could of been hall sender i set the engine to tdc and put dizzy in at tdc (will set up when engine running) .

ok put in my charged battery and unplugged the fuel rail and went to crank and engine started to kick in then failed ( obv ran out of fuel)

so plugged rain back in and got nothing

so im guessing that iver the ecu has gone and flooding on startup or the maf is gone and putting the wrong amount of fuel in.

im gonna try another ecu and change the ecu relay and pray to god that she fires :)
