« on: 23 October 2011, 10:06 »
Need to remove this is it pretty straight forward is there a step by step guide anywhere. I imagine I need to remove Cambelt, head is comming off anyway. Undo sump bolts remove oil pump. Then I'm not sure never done this side of engine before. It's the abf engine. any help appreciated.

gearbox and flywheel off , sump n all that then just unbolt it all , mark all the caps and take note of where they came from and what way round they went

Would it not be much better to remove the engine to do this?

I've got a 6 ft pit underneath the car so access isn't a problem. Just to confirm the gearbox has to cone off. Do I need to remove the bottom pulley or is that separate.

everything var crank out you can do engine in.

removeing crank with engine in is a pita, putting the cranck back in with the engine in car is a twit,  quicker and easyer to take engine out.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

You must be a glutton for punishment trying that in a pit, my arms, neck and shoulders are aching just thinking about it. Take the advise and pull the engine .
