Remote locking attempt
« on: 22 October 2011, 18:11 »
Have tried to install a remote locking system in the golf but it's not quite working. It already has the vacuum central locking installed from factory.

Fitted the remote system but when I try locking from it, central locking makes all the noises, passenger doorknob will go down but then comes back up again. Trying to unlock does nothing at all. When using central locking from the drivers door using key it still works fine. Have followed the instructions in the link here, number 4. Am thinking maybe the motor switch in drivers door is not engaging for some reason on the remote. Any ideas?

They usually do that when one of the doors, bonnet, or boot is open.  Have you double checked all connections etc?

Yeah, did it before when the rod in the boot was sticking. That's what made me think there might be something wrong with the motor switch in driver's door, not engaging when using remote. Checked all connections and couldn't see anything wrong.

I think you need to fit another motor in the drivers door.

That's what I'm thinking now, that it's just a switch in the drivers door and not doing anything to lock or unlock when using the remote as it's not connected to the vacuum system.

If I press down drivers side doorknob after using remote to lock, it all works as should and doesn't unlock again. Oh well, gonna have to figure out how to fit a motor in there now.

Yes, I checked with a friend that does alarms and he said you will need an extra motor.

Thanks for that, did some digging and came to the same conclusion. Hopefully it'll fit in there keeping the original switch so central locking still works from the key.
