But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

But that's not the point of LEGO.  Just having a pile of bricks and using your imagination to build whatever you can/want, is the point.

LEGO ain't Airfix.

Lego is awesome, that CAD software has been out for ages and free to download, its been advertised in the lego club fan mail for yonks now (I'm 22, a member and still receiving it!  ), brilliant as you can build stuff and then print a sheet off all the components used. Go to your lego outlet pick up there dispenser pots and got to the parts wall, pick out the stuff and fill up your pot(s).

Shame the Lego company is a pain in the ass to deal with as not all parts are available in the shop, they refuse to let you order in bulk, even with no discount... really a kill joy for enthusiasts.

With the software you have, in theory, all the lego pieces in the world to play with. Therefore you can build anything you want in the software and then go order the pieces that you need. you can then start to build up your lego collection this way rather then having to buy pre-set models.

Well...such is the way of the world.    When I was a kid, you just bought a big box of Lego.  No plans, no drawings.  Just bricks and other bits and bobs..

It was only when Lego Techic came in that predescribed models were built.
