GT TDI 130 starting problems after short journeys?
« on: 18 October 2011, 21:49 »
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice on my mk4 gt tdi 130 on an 04 plate. it starts first time every time in the mornings and when starting it after it's been sitting all day at work (glow plug lights all going out correctly etc), but when I go on a short journey, turn it off (maybe 5 mins running time) and try to start it again it just turns over for ages and nothing happens. when it eventually starts it runs for a few seconds then splutters out again or lets me go about 500 metres or until i get to the nearest busy road and dies again! The annoying thing is that it doesn't do it all the time but is becoming more frequent and sems to do it every other day. It feels like a fuel problem or a temp sensor to me but can't be sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as its doing my nut in! thanks

PD engines are hugely dependant on sensors - as its a cheap and easy job give the temp sensor a swap.
if its still being a pain get onto VCDS and check then engine group 13 - this gives the injected quantities and will show you what your injectors are doing - i.e. if you've got one at +2.9 you've got an injector that's flooding the system trying to stabilize the idle
