hi all,
in an effort to increase my sons understanding of engineering and basic mechanic skills, i decided that we should do a resoration project together... i was holding out for my youthfull passion of a moto crosser or something, but i had an offer to buy a VW Golf GTi (ABF) on 97 plate for.... wait for it.... £100...
so i snapped it up, drove it home and try to enthuse the lad by getting hime to give it a clean. all i can say was he was NFI...

so i put it in the garage and had a look around the engine bay. (im an aerospace engineer by trade and have no decernable car mechanic skills other than my tinkering youth on motocrossers) it was a mess, the previous owner has run it for a while with a damage breather hose, so oil was splattered all over the engine bay.
This was about the time i thought Sod this ill sell it on for a few quid. but then i stumbled on this site for restoration projects... and its been a downward spiral of grins since then.
Enthused by the passion from readers/posters in here, i decided to carry on the project for my self..
i have worked on it for 3 days now and have it stripped down quit nicely. if i collate the photos together that i have taken (more for me to refer to later) i will post the project on here.
but i am super happy to say that the VW Golf bug has well and truely bitten me.

i will hopefully keep you posted...
