How noisy is your induction kit?
« on: 27 April 2005, 20:04 »
Im keen to fit an induction kit but want to find out first how much noise they make in the car at cruising speed, (80mph ish).  :undecided:
Also where does the plastic 25mm diameter pipe go that currently comes out of the air box once the box is removed.
Finally there is an electrical connector attached to the back end of the air box, (the outlet pipe), is this kept or removed when fitting an induction kit?

Many thanks for any help.

no need to fit an induction kit you won`t gain anything, just fit a good panel filter

You are better off using a performance panel filter in a drilled airbox.

i fitted a k+n 57i induction kit to my 20v gti, tbh it was pants......... the mpg went through the roof (due to the k+n oil which is on the mesh on the filter getting on my MAF sensor), the sound didnt suit the car either really, unless you have a loudish exhaust i wouldnt bother, as the noise is not as good as a drilled airbox, any oiled performance induction kits/panel filters can dirty your maf sensor as above and cause excessive fueling/poor running) not straight away but it is known that they can cause problems...

sold my k+n on ebay, now back on standard air box and paper filter...... will get round to drilling it one day when ive got a nice exhaust sorted out..........

oh yeah the elcrical connection you are on about at the rear of your airbox is the MAF sensor, this is actually in the middle of the airflowpipe but the connection is on the out side, if you decide to fit a kit etc, you will have to unplug this so you can unscrew the MAF sensor pipe from the airbox, this will then screw back onto whatever kit youve bought along with a support bracket, then once in position you plug it back in before you start.....

Mine makes a bit of noise on gear change, but don't get an oiled filter like the K&N stick to dynatwist or ram air.
Don't expect any power gains as everone says, but it looks a lot better under the bonnet.

On my ramair the maf, plugs back into it.
