Thuggish stewards and police at Man City yesterday
« on: 16 October 2011, 10:26 »
I did not film this, but was sat nearby.

Like at every ground now , you have over the top policing and stewards dealing with people standing up. Yesterday there was 100s of Man City fans standing up in this area and in the video you can clearly see 2000 Villa fans standing to.

But of course, the police and stewards attempt to arrest a man in his 60s. After a few minutes of pushing , shoving and grabbing him, the man collapsed to the ground and after treatment is helped away by the medical team.

I have been going to Man City for 16 years now and the policing and stewards have never been this bad.

The stewards an plods are getting quite ridiculous at games now.

And have you noticed they'll never try an get the big chaps or nutty bastards who they should be going for?

Thy threatened to take my 14 year Old cousins season ticket off him because he jumped on his chair when reading scored once (he's tiny and let's face it, it doesn't happen often!)

i read somewhere a while back, the way the clubs see it, is that theyve provided seating and stewards for your safety, if youre standing and have an accident, or fall forward and domino effect everyone in front of you, the insurance wont be too happy

Post it up on 606bluemoonlegends Stu, I expect a lot of the guys on there were at the match and would have something to say about it.
Difficult call really, having not been to City since Maine Road days (I live 200 odd miles away but used to travel up in my yoof when I could afford to) you can't see why it all kicked off from that vid which may stand the police and (bar)stewards in a better light if the old guy was getting a bit silly first. There's always a lot of emotion at games and the police have to stand in the middle of tens of thousands of half pissed blokes and do what they have to do whilst getting abuse from all angles. Stewards are just like night-club bouncers - you get good ones and bad ones but when it all kicks off they have to stand united (hate using that word on a city thread!!).

Not a nice vid to watch though. Would be interesting to hear more input from those who saw the build up to it.

That is pretty disgraceful!

I went to the liverpool v wolves game a couple of weeks ago and all of the wolves fans stood throughout the whole match. Some stewards are more accomodating that others.

In truth, it only takes one person to make the whole stand, stand up

Yeah, most games I've been to everyone is itching to stand up like in the bad ole days.
The only time you feel like sitting down is when you're getting hammered!!

Exactly! try sitting down in the kop... the seats are so small, you want to stand anyway! I do think they should bring back terracing... there are so many better ways of controlling the numbers in there now then there were back in the day

The Signal Iduna Park ( Borussia Dortmund) ground, has a huge standing stand and no problems there and they regularly get over 80,000 a league game!! More than any club in England.

Christ! You wouldn't want to be stood near the front with four pints of overpriced stadium lager threatening to break loose from you bladder during a goal surge!!
