ECU Tuning n00b

Ok, Im sure what im about to say have been asked before and your probably all sick of it. But i have a few questions about remapping.
One think i have learned is that im best of using R-Tech? Am i right?

My car is a Mk4 1.8t GTI with no mods. The questions i have are:
 
I have looked at around 20 different companies and all give a different range of power. Some say from 150-180. Others ive seen as high at 215?
Also on r-tech's site what do base, spec1 spec 2 etc mean. Which would be best?
One company i have spoke to suggested i replace the diverter valve with a higher spec one, is this neccecary? Would it benefit from other component upgrades? if so, which ones?
What sort of toll would it have on an engine with only 64k on the clock?

What other companies other than R-Tech are reputable.

What engine code is your 1.8T?  This will depend on what power you can expect

Where are you located?

Answer those two and we can point you in the right direction 

DV is worth replacing with a Forge 007p; the standard item can't cope with the extra boost produced

Many many companies who will do AUM remaps which will do the job and put a huge grin on your face.
 With the R-Tech maps we are now on GEN6 mapping which is all our work and finding over the year combined into our mapping method for the spec1 to offer the best power delivery, and the most average power under the curve without compromise to the engines hardware.  The remaps are setup to be as smooth and as linear as poss, plus with all our remap you will get full health check, data logging, smoke test dyno runs pre remap, the post remap the car will get logged again to make sure its spot on... And its this health check that gets the mapping 100%.

A few more questions

1. The car needs a service any time soon, would you recommend i do this before a remap?
2. As a few people have mentioned replacing the diverter valve, if i were to buy it from say ebay is it something i could get fitted by yourselves?

Thanks, appreciate it, I've just been made redundant, and as soon as i have a new job, im putting my redundancy money to good use, i'll be in touch as soon as im ready to go. I've just found instructions on it, and it looks pretty simple, but i still wouldn't trust myself.
