Tdi 130 Mufflerectomy
« on: 14 October 2011, 13:16 »
I installed a miltek decat and love the turbo noise
So i started hunting for a way to make it louder but without a chavy exhaust note.

After reading lots of pages about removing the rear silencer I took the chop (literately) Its suppose to de-restrict the exhaust and create a louder turbo noise but not effect the exhaust note much. So i chopped it off and replaced with a pipe, started it up and it sounded awful! Turbo was very loud but so was EVERYTHING else lol. Dont understand why mine would be any different to other tdi golfs that have had it done.

So last night we swapped the pipe to a resonator from a ford rs2000 which took the turbo noise away (opposite from what i wanted)and left a very deep exhaust note! If i was still 17 this would have  been great as it sounds quite loud and throaty but im not. So now im back onto thinking about swapping the resonator with a back box smaller that the golfs original.

Anyone got any knowledge on this subject?

I have heard people saying that it sometimes sound like an owl noise if you put in a miltek resonated exhaust, but is it just the decat pipe you put in? Could you put a full miltek exhaust on it? Good luck with it...let us know how you get on!

You get the owl sound from a de-cat, Ive got a turbo back miltek non res with decat and its got a very loud owl whistle
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Yup ive got the miltek decat pipe but wanted louder turbo owl noise :)
People have cut the backbox off with NO extra exhaust noise but mine doesnt like it lol!
Basically me and my mechanic are trying different setups like this:

Miltek decat, no resonator as standard then back box = Quiet exhaust with owl noise
Then
Miltek decat, no resonator as standard then a straight pipe = Farty wafty sounds, loud exhaust and mega loud owl noise.
Now
Miltek decat, no resonator as standard then a centre big bore resonater from rs2000 = Loud deep exhaust no owl noise.

So ive lost the owl noise due to the resonator and gained a ricer noise

Next up ill be removing the resonator and refitting the original back box with some changes to hopefully free up some hp/lbs as the straight pipe did.

Ideas are to remove the twin exit pipes all together and fit a much larger bore single exit :)

is best option just to replace the back box rather than cat back?

can't imagine the centre box doing much
