If i remember rightly the fuel filler neck is plastic and all in one isnt it?
If not can you not just buy a second hand one and take the filler neck off?

Ive had a look for some repro ones but no joy.
Also According to ETKA it lists the same tank for all vehicles bar the estate so you might just be better off getting a good used one.

perfect thanks, i've been to the scrap yard and there were a few mk3s there with no rust at all around this area so i got to work on trying to get this part off as mine does pull off but it's rusted to hell,

anyway an hour later and butchering two mk3's i couldnt get this part off and that was hanging off it as much as possbile with trying not to damage it at the same time (very difficult)

thanks for the diagram just what i needed i think it does show that part as well its just no one has a clue when i ring them up what i'm talking about LOL.

Ring up VW and give them the part number you require (1H0 201 255 in this instance) if they havnt discontinued them you should be able to get one :)

ive contacted VW and the part has been discontinued, but then again he said its moulded into the fuel fill neck so was it ever available as a seperate part  i really dont have much faith in VW dealerships anymore

even with the part number they were scratching their heads and said no sir you need a whole complete fuel tank, why
would i do that or is it just me,

i'm still unable to sort this issue,

so the tempory fix is that I've removed the old metal ring completely which leaves it with the plastic filler neck exposed but obviously no thread for the original cap to screw into.

ive got a emergency filler cap for now to go in the filler neck to at least block it off.

i still need to get this sorted so if i find out any more info i'll post it up.

looking like a used fuel tank may be the only option for this fix
