Hi every one what would cause the temp light on my 91 8v gti to flash from cold ??? if i let it run it gets up to temperature fine and dose not over heat but the light is always flashing.

Could be low level of fluids? More likely a faulty temp sender...

Mine had a similar fault last year...

GSF ones are crap and only last a year so if it is faulty buy a VAG OEM one...

When you say temp sender is that the blue temp thingy or is that the one that goes into the rad????

Sorry to get in on your post bulk!
I have the same problem that has only started this week. I should mention that ive not started her for 4 months. I replaced the mentioned blue sensor in Jan, I have a weeping coolant flange could this be the cause? plenty of coolant though.

The blue sensor is for the ecu on an 8v digi, not the temp gauge. That's off the black one next to it, but if the gauge works fine its more likely the level sensor in the header tank

Bridge the pins in the plug then start the car. If it goes out after a few seconds it's the sensor. If not I'd suspect a broken connection somewhere.

Check the coolant level. If its a shade low it will flash but then when the engine gets hot and the coolant level rises the light will extinguish. 

And if I'm wrong its free and quick. :smiley:
