lowering springs or coilovers?

hello I have a mk4 and it's got 18" r32 alloys on it, but I would like to lower it, it only needs lowering about max 40mm. I would like the cheapest and easiest way to lower it? I have been told coilovers are expensive..? I'm a novice with lowering cars as this is my first lol!
any help is appreciated :)

entirely depends what you want?

do you need adjustability?
is the car going to be tracked? ect ect ect.

i was going to just get some springs (a mate offerd me some cheep) and was going to run them on standard shocks untill they were fubard then upgrade to something diferent, but as the shocks are already knakerd im going for a cheep set of coilovers, reason being i need adjustability, and i also like the firmness of coilovers, my cars never gonna be tracked so dont need to spend loads on coilovers and a set of fk aks will do me.

have a search around.

yeah I've seen some fk's for like 100 quid that would do me. Its not gonna be tracked just wanna lower the car. yeah adjustable would be good so I guess it's coilovers?

fk,s be good choice then if u lowering over 40mm tho will need uprated anti roll bar so u dont get rubbing issues

your car lowered mate? if so what did you use,
i will look at some fk's then mate, they are easy to fit aren't they? I have a mechanic mate who can do them :) haven't got anything technical to do?

i got jamex coilovers on never had any problems in the 12mths they,ve been on there similar to fk and jom

Good quality spring / shock kit is the best choice.
