there was a huge debate on this in the 'photography world' and the thing to remember is that photography is not a crime and can be carried out in any public place of anyone you wish, including the police

This country is messed up man with things like this. I work for network rail and about 2 years ago we were sent to a job on the Olympic site in stratford but we couldn't find wot we were send there to do (because they sent us to the wrong area lol) any way I rang my supervisor told him we couldnt find anthing, and he said to take some photos off of the road bridge looking down track so they could get the signal number just to make sure, and within 5 mins of taking the first picture the police were there and they hand cuffed every one told us we were committing a crime by taking photos of the railway tracks we could be terrorists scoping the area (bearing in mind we were in a network rail van and all in Bright orange) they searched the van from top to bottom we must have been there a good 3 hours and then they got on to our office and our supervisor explained wot we we're doing there and then they let us go lol if they had listened to us in the first place we could have saved alot of time and trouble but atleast we got the rest of the day off

Yeah big uproar about year ago where lots of photographers taking pics with dSLR cameras were being interrogated by the police but those with compact cameras were left alone. As above, it was all about terrorism. Surely if a terrorist want to take pics, they could now use a compact camera - especially as the IQ can be very good these days?
