Golf PD 150 not starting
« on: 09 October 2011, 11:56 »
Hi lads, wondered if anyone can give me a couple of pointers on where to start fault finding.
Basically it's been driving and starting fine no problem. Then all of a sudden saturday evening after being parked up from Friday morning I went to start it and it didn't. It turned over ok and was almost firing and starting. I turned the key back and tried again and now it was just turning over and not even trying to fire at all. This continued for another few goes and the same thing happened.
Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar happen or can suggest things to try/where to start?
Cheers lads

Stu

I had a similar problem once after doing a service, the fuel pump was not priming and got air in the line/filter.
Might be worth checking the filter
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Cheers for that mate. I don't think my fuel pump is priming either. What did you do to sort it?

Usually if you have under half a tank of derv in your car you should hear the pump under the rear seat drivers side make a kinda swooshing sound as soon as you turn the key in your car mine does.It could also be your EGR valve stuck which is a common problem on golf mk4 dervs how many miles has it done?

Sorry, I didn't say anything else about this. Had a mobile mechanic mate come out to me and have a look. Ran all sorts of diagnostic tests using his fancy Snap-On Diagnostics Unit and got absolutely nothing!
He then was able to start it up using the Diagnostic Unit and its been fine since?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? He's never seen anything like it and can't think what the problem was/is, but now its completely fine!
Hoping that it doesn't happen again.
