strange light problem

mark 2golf gti 8v 1989 thought bulb had gone on drivers side light no "main beam" got new bulb still no work,then it gets strange on low beam first" click on switch"passenger side main beam comes on. :huh:and they both work on high beam on the stearing wheel stalk!is it a prob with the switch??? all help as usual gratefull ty :smiley:

if your get main baem on one side but not the other you need to check that the connector is on ok on the back of the bulb,

Sounds to me like you may have a wiring problem

If you have both main beams working when you flash the lights, I would say the bulbs and connectors are OK. There are two fuses for the main beams, one for each side, the feed for the "flash" is a different fuse.

yeah steve is spot on.

I would go through each stage and check what is happening.

Ignition off, sidelights on nothing else. main beam flash will work

ignition on, sidelights both sides, headlights both sides, main beam both sides. main beam flash.
