But the offset will mean they will stick out at the front a bit.

Exonian knows a bit about wheels so if he says so, then I'd suggest that he's correct.

Do the golf R have bigger wings then or are the scirocco wheels different

Golfs and Sciroccos run different offsets. An 8 inch wide wheel on a Golf would ideally have an offset of 44mm or higher. Even at ET44 it's marginal on the front.
Sciroccos run a wider track and have huuuuge arches and thus have lower offsets. Scirocco wheels tend to be ET41 and have 235 section tyres.
Golf R alloys are ET51 and even then have little plastic extensions on their wheel arches to prevent the tyres sitting proud of the bodywork (MOT fail and thus illegal with VOSA).

And thanks Jim!!!

What eta would I look for on a set of genuine vw wheels to fit a Golf Gtd.
Also does it say it on the rim?
Thanks

Not Jim but browsing :)

ET48 - 51 should be a perfect fit and stamped inside the rim

I thought the lower the ET the more it sticks out? Learn something new everyday!
