V8 vs TDI

Everyone loves a TDI for the economy.

My mate who races off-road loves spending under £30 on fuel to race, when the V8 boys are spending £120+

I miss my V8, sounded awesome. 13mpg around town and 20 on a long run, I don't miss that part of it.

My boss has a 76 Landy with a 3.5 V8 in it running edelbroch manifolds Webbers and high performance cam, it is also custard yellow
It is such an awesome sound and was the snow mobile which took us all to work last winter.
If he gets 15mpg it of it he is a happy man
Nowt wrong with a tdi though, and in a landy or the like you dont mind sounding like a tractor

He was planning to put another 3.5 v8 in it which he has built in his workshop but came upon a 4.6 V8 from a 96 vogue, this will be fitted next month
He is hoping to get better economy by using the efi injection system from the donor car, trying to find out how to do this properly atm without throwing up fault codes or running in limp mode.
It looks entirely possible but space and electrics on a 76 landy are limited and rudimentary respectivley. Would be a shame to have to run carbs on it so currently looking for some input from a man in the know........

Tell him to keep it carb and convert it to LPG the kits for carb based 3.5's are cheap as chips as there is no igs system.Its worth a thought

Its more about having a 4.6 over having an economical 4x4, when its not mud bashing he is towing a steam engine around on the trailer. Compared to owning a TVR Chimera the Landy is cheap to run even in its current state

the 4.6 will  probaly f**k up and go pourus ( provided it hasent allready )as they have a habbit of doing that, as for the fueling  the rover EFI is pants as the ECU is sh!te wether you have the flappy or the hotwire airflow meter.

it needs a trigger wheel shoveing on the frount  megasquirt II driveing EDIS 8      dosent exactly make the engine  much more economical but makes it more bearable as it goes rather than just makeing lts of noise also the inlet manifold can be adjusted in the throttel body department for extra noise and goes.
