For that price its a good system wont make any diff having dvd or not you dont have to use it.... I mean Amp and speakers is the better option but depends on price bud?  any reason for 2.1 is it a small room?

heres a basic option for just an amp and speakers http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/yamaha/nsp285/yama-nsp285-blk

Again price is what it all comes down to bud

Lot of people think Richer Sounds is expensive, I reckon there's some real deals to be had though if you look carefully.

Eh?  Richer Sounds started selling last year's cast-offs at massive discounts.  They still have some of that sort of thing going on.

The risk is that you get in there and the salesman up-sells you to the latest and greatest.  This happened a bit with our TV, but the one we got up-sold to wasn't *actually* in stock cue very embarrassed salesman and £200 off the next one up to bring it down to where we were prepared to go budget-wise.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I bought my TV from there, they were excellent.  Went in and obviously they make a bee line for you, said I just wanted to have a look.  Eventually he started his salesman bumf though.  I liked the Samsung, LG and Sony's, so was giving them a good look side by side, to see which I liked.  I mentioned I'd had a Samsung before and that I do like them, so would be tempted by another.  What a co-incidence, the saleman has one too!  Yes, I'm sure he would have whatever make I was considering

Anywaaaaaaaaaaay.  I decided it was between the Samsung and LG and couldn't make my mind up.  I had a nice chat with him, he told me the spec's on both televisions.  There was another Samsung I quite liked that was £50 more expensive.  He actually advised me that for what it's worth I should save the £50 and get the other model instead.  Was quite impressed with him to be honest.

I've got a set of small Yamaha surround speakers, an older version of those, bought from Richer Sounds. Absolutely great for movies, the sub really kicks well.
Paired with a surround amp like that Sony, can't go wrong for the money.
I bought my kit from Richer Sounds, no problems with them at all, always good value for money.
They always have very small shops, stacked floor to ceiling with kit. To the point where they used to hold the record for sales per square metre of shop floor.

I had this same problem with having a ps3 and not wanting a surround sound kit with dvd/bluray player. In the end the only thing i could find that fitted the bill and was 5.1 was this...

sells for over £500 on sony site.. can pick it up for £265 from amazon
