« on: 07 October 2011, 21:51 »
so ive moved my music collection from my portable hard drive, to my main drive thats kept in my bedroom. ive deleted all the music from itunes and dragged and dropped it back in from its new location on the new hard drive, it takes 3 hours to process and sort itself out, then when it says its complete, nothing shows up in itunes

am i doing something wrong?

firstly ensure itunes is not making a copy of what you are imorting by going

edit - prefernces - advanced - uncheck the "copy files to itunes media folder"

in itunes go to file - add to library - and tell itunes where to look for the songs

itunes is a piece of crap. shame there's no alternative

Close down iTunes.

Delete the files ONLY (not the folders) in the folder like:

C:\Users\Your logon ID\Music\iTunes

These are the records iTunes uses so it knows where your music is.

Now open iTunes, which will give you a funny look shrug its shoulders and say 'I've got nothing for you, mate'.  In the default window there should be the option to search your computer for music.  Do this.  It will crawl the computer and find everything.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

For a start runs dog slow when you have a decent sized library on anything lowish spec, and also because it's trying to be all things to all men, media player, music library manager, ripper, online shop, recomendation engine, Mobile device manager and patcher, etc...

Plus the UI design stinks.

my mac book pro is less than a year old and i got an upgraded on most of the specs, but i got it all
sotred now - downloaded a song from the itunes store, and everything magically appeared, with 4 copies,
so my library had 110,272 songs in it. needless to say i deleted everything and started again
Thanks itunes!
