Samyang 8mm or Sigma 10-20
« on: 07 October 2011, 19:49 »
Been shooting a lot of stuff 70mm plus, but realised I loved shooting wide angle. So I'm tempted to invest in one of the above, will be on a crop sensor on my 1000d. I think the 8mm may be too wide and also is a fixed length, whereas the Sigma may give more options.

One's fish-eye, t'other's just wide-angle.

Which do you want?

Both

I guess what I really want is a wide angle.

I think you'll be able to do an awful lot more with the 10-20mm lens.

Unless you're planning to shoot a lot of skateboard photography.

The 10-20 is much more versatile, you'll find yourself using it much more than a fisheye.
I sometimes want something wider than the 18mm on my kit lens but can't justify (yet) the cost of a 10-20, especially when there are other lenses I'd rather have.

I have pretty much not used my 18-55 kit lens since I bought the 10-20.

Just get a bit closer.

And for landscapes, it's unbeatable.

Since I've got the 70-200 and the 50mm my kit lens doesn't get much of a look in.

Really fancy something like the Sigma.
