mk3 engine codes

so whats the score with all the different mk3 engine codes? 2E ADY AGG.......haynes says there are 7 for the 2.0  8V. mines an ADY and only seemed to be installed for a 9 month period.

Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

I think VW kept changing the injection system on the 8v, digifant, simos etc..
hence the different engine codes.
