Best place to sell GTI
« on: 04 October 2011, 21:34 »
Hi,

I'm looking to sell my 2008 plate GTI Ed 30, UK Spec Import and not sure how to go about it. Car is in immaculate condition but initial feedback is that the fact that it is an import will reduce the value. Not sure whether private or part ex is the way to go.  Concerned about people being put off by seeing import, coming up to winter etc making a stressful private sale. Equally trade values at the moment not so great.

Any advice on selling would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The trader where i bought my ED30 says he's always on the lookout for similar cars, not sure how much he'd price your at though but it could be worth giving him a ring or dropping him a message

BTW - i paid £10800 for mine 2007, ED30, 3 door, manual, red, 59k, fvwsh, immaculate - might give you an idea

Price. I don't see too much of an issue. You'll have to price it cheaper to sell but surely you bought it cheaper in the first place . . . .

As for where to sell it Ive sold all my cars through Auto Trader. Another decent place would be Pistonheads.

Good luck.

Being an import will hurt its value.

Hi guys, firstly thanks for the replies.

Got my Ed 30 GTI from Motorpoint, paid £18k for a 58 plate when the Mark VI was about to launch. The car is full UK spec, only difference was I only got a two yr warranty. At the time of buying the car I contemplated waiting for a Mark VI but the Ed 30 had that extra appeal with all the special edition trim, heated seats and more importantly the extra 30 bhp.

Fully expect to take a hit for the fact that it's an import but like you say I made my saving on the initial buy. Car is immaculate, FSH, only 13500 miles on the clock after three years of working close to home and being an amateur detailed the car looks stunning.

Unfortunately selling to make way for something a little more practical now we have to find room for a baby, buggy and two dogs. Dealer part ex price £11800 which I think privately I could better. Looking to place order for new Tiguan or Audi Q3 some time soon for March 2013 delivery so have a few months yet.

Gutted to sell really, a GTI was my childhood dream car and must say I still smile everytime I drive it. Really not convinced I'll have that same enthusiasm for the replacement! :-(

As said already Autotrader still seems a lot of peoples first point of call when looking for a car, I would stick it on there.  Also a few of the guys in the Mk6 section seem to be buying Tiguans if thats what you are thinking of next, could be worth finding out their thoughts on them.

Put your order in now if you want either of those cars for March next year. My local dealer said some have been waiting 6 months or more depending on spec.

Try all the different VW site classified ads. There are buyers out there, but you'll have to grit your teeth as the ed30 prices are dropping quite a lot. £10,800 is the cheapest I've seen an early 07 plate go for, so don't give it away just for the sake of a sale.

Never tried but would a buggy, a baby and a dog not fit in a GTI? I never quiet get why people think they need to sell the GTI for some big 4x4. I've taken 5 people and all their gear on some long journeys and ive got a an amp and 2 subs in the back. Yes it was a small squeeze but that was filling the car to within an inch of its limit, thoughts?
