ARGH! Need a CAT ASAP for a 1.8T GTI.
« on: 04 October 2011, 20:31 »
Hi everyone,

My lovely Golf failed MOT today and I desperately need a new Cat.

Anyone fitted a de-cat pipe recently and got the cat spare?

It's a 2001 AUM engine.

I'm willing to pay for it. There's a CAT on eBay going for £75 including postage but I'd prefer to buy from someone on here as you lot are a bit more trustworthy.

If you can help, here's my mobile number. 07976 733824.

Cheers and here's hoping.

Paul

Thanks Rich, most helpful, I appreciate that!

It'll be up for sale once I've got the ticket on it!  Can't afford the increasing fuel prices, but won't sell a duffer!

Got the bottom balljoints to fit tomorrow!

I would check the car for vac leaks, duff maf before fitting a new cat, Its rare the cats fail.

If you have access to VCDS then check blocks 32 for the fuel trims.

Hey guys, thanks to Rich, I contacted Jonnyturbo and he still had his old one and it is winging it's way to me as we speak.

I'm throwing the balljoints on tonight, then the cat on Friday morning and then back for retest.

What sort of money are they going for at the moment?

It's pretty much standard apart from I swapped the 16" Montreal wheels for the standard 2 litre GTI wheels (got them for nothing) and 195/45 15 tyres.  It sits really low!!  But I didn't mean it to.

No other mods, well, the decat is coming off on Friday.  It's silver, 5 door and body work is fairly straight apart from a few little dings and a couple of little scratchs.

What should I be asking for it?

Cheers guys, thanks for your help on the cat!

Paul
