b.t.w I did work at an investment bank and the investments division of a high street one too...as you can tell It wasn't with i.t stuff

I work for an investment bank too, have done for the last 4 years.  Before that I worked 4 years for a fund manager.

You'd think I'd be on a decent salary by now 

Haven't you learned how to siphon funds from the bank without anyone noticing?

don't say that with DH around!!  
actually now I can say the week Hbos hit the crap......I was on expenses at a 5star "projects" meeting (we even all got told not to mention Hbos paying as the press would of had a field day!!)

I'm fine, I work for a big American bank, so it doesn't effect the UK all that much
