Very common, I've had this in a few cars and there's a simple fix. You need to get a bottle of "Gummi Pfledge" and apply it liberally to the rubbers around the door frame (particularly the "felt" rubbers at the top of the door).

Thanks Joe. Just ordered some from eBay. It'll be two weeks before I get a chance to apply it, but I'll report back on the results.

Thanks again, Joe. Just tried the 'Gummi Pflege' stuff and it appears to work well - although I'll wait a few weeks and make sure it's still performing before giving it a full 10/10...

Next job is the high pitched squeak from the rear of the car when going over bumps, ruts etc. Anyone had it? Know what it is? Boot hinges perhaps?

Had this squeek on my mk5, turned out that something was caught where the rear seats fold down, I would check that there is nothing stuck under there and that the rear seats are fully locked in their upright position.

Good stuff.

Since I last posted, my car has developed a really irritating rattle from somewhere behind the central vents or the speedo. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where it is, but it does sound like it's deep in the dash, maybe close to the windscreen. Sounds like one of those where there's a screw/washer loose but despite me pulling and prodding (I've even removed the radio for a look behind it), I cannot for the life of me locate it... grrrr

Mine sounded like that it turned out to be the sunvisor clip. Put your sun visor down or press up on the catch and see if it stops.
Also try turning the dash vents on or off as there known to rattle.

I've now got a really annoying noise, when I turn there is a clunk from underneath the driver seat, looked under there to see if I can see anything but nothing.

The car goes in for a service in November so I'll get them to look at it then, I've already had stuff done to the driver seat under warranty!

Thanks, yeah I'd already tried the sunvisor but it's not coming from that. It's definitely inside the dash. I reckon it's either a loose screw/washer or maybe some part of the heating ducts has worked itself loose. It also occurs randomly, e.g. I could drive over a bump and not hear it, but going around a roundabout would trigger it!
